Fall break: “Now you’re just somebody that I used to know…”

I’m in shock – I still can’t believe my last college Fall Break is gone, gone, gone forever. I barely knew you, friend.

Luckily, I had an amazing time off. Most of the fine folks at Drury went home for our four-day weekend (some even went abroad, because that’s apparently doable), leaving myself and a few other friends to run the school. Because we weren’t prepared to be anything but lazy, we didn’t cause any trouble – but we did have lots of fun. And no, the h-word (hint: it rhymes with ‘gnomework’) was not involved.

Here’s a little of what I did do, in vaguely chronological order and with pictures at the end.

WEDNESDAY, I…

  • Saw the band Cursive play downtown – I’ve loved them since I was literally in junior high. The best part? I won free tickets via Twitter! It was the perfect way to start my break.
  • Watched the American Horror Story season premiere with my friends. We’re obsessed, but it was SO SPOOKY.
  • Went to Kai with friends for their College Night menu, which meant a $2 plate of salty edamame and a $4 Miami Vice Roll for me. I challenge you to find a more delicious treat for that cheap.

THURSDAY, I…

  • Ate the most wonderful breakfast at Gailey’s Breakfast Café and had about three cups of their coffee. I got my usual cinnamon french toast and nearly burst with happiness – or maybe I was just that ridiculously full.
  • Saw The Perks of Being a Wallflowerwith my friends – Go see it! You must!
  • Watched Mute Math play at the Gillioz downtown – again for free, because my main squeeze was sweet and got me a ticket!

FRIDAY, I…

  • Went shopping with my wonderful grandparents and bought some furniture for my soon-to-be-real first place.
  • Ate dinner with them and my older brother downtown. Nonna’s’ tiramisu never disappoints.
  • Went to a local show downtown. In case you couldn’t tell, I love live music.

SATURDAY, I…

  • Literally shopped ’till I dropped with my friends. It felt as if we went into Forever 21 and didn’t find our way out again until weeks later, but really it was just a few hours.
  • Relaxed in my room, watched movies, and went to bed early for the first time in a verylong time. Fall Break requires everyone to overdose on sleep at least one night, and I wasn’t about to go against the rules.

SUNDAY, I…

  • Came out of hibernation to run errands. I sold and donated some clothes, traded my blonde locks for chocolate brown, and – confession time – shopped a little bit more.
  • Found reality again when I went on duty in Wallace. Most of us procrastinated terribly over break, so by Sunday night, we were doomed to bid Fall Break goodbye.

Two days later, Fall Break seems like nothing but a delightfully carefree dream. I’m surprised more students aren’t recreating it by skipping class entirely, but that’s the Drury difference. I’ll be back with more posts soon, but in the mean time, tell me how your Fall Break was (or your last break in general) – was it better than mine? Comment below!
